DOODLE NECKLACES
In case you missed the note in the beginning of
the year and you are wondering.....WHAT THE HECK IS A DAISY DOODLE? It's something new I've come up with this year. Each girl
has her own "Daisy Doodle Necklace" she wears at each meeting. She earnes special coloring beads for DOING special things,
like: attending meetings and events, bringing treats when it's her assigned week, wearing her tunic, being a special helper
and much more! Ask your daughter about her special necklace!
DAISY AWARDS CEREMONY
DAISY ONLY PICNIC IN THE PARK/AWARDS CEREMONY: The girls from Daisy Troop #114 have planned a special celebration for their family
and friends. They have chose to hold an old fashioned picnic in the park:
WHO: All Daisy Girl Scouts and their Families & Friends
* Older Girls are invited to join us BUT this will be
a DAISY ONLY Ceremony
WHEN: Monday May 24th
WHERE & TIME: Check Invites for details
THEME: Old Fashioned Juliette Low Celebration
(Dress either as a Southern Bell or wear Daisy uniform)
BRING: Own picnic & drinks, own table service,
lawn chairs or blankets to sit on
HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
Those who do not have them will receive their Yellow Insignia Tabs & Membership Pins. Everyone will get Membership
Stars and Blue Discs and all Law Petals they have memorized by the end of January. BUT we still have the "MONEY ISSUE" ~ We
have NO MONEY...lol.
MAY 28th END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR PARTY!!
We'll have a "MOM & ME" slumber party Invites will be sent out as soon as all the details are worked out. This
party will be for ALL ages. Either a MOM or older adult partner MUST attend with each Daisy Girl Scout. Older Girl Scouts
are encouraged to bring an Adult partner to spend the night with them but not mandatory for them to spend the night. Watch
for your invite coming soon!
MONEY MATTERS
Several of you gave a $20.00 donation which bought
our Promise Centers and helped fund our Christmas Party. I also baught a few Daisy Handbooks and Tunics. I have one handbook
($8.25) and one Large Tunic ($12.00) left if anyone is interested in purchacing them.
THANKS FOR THE $20.00 Donations! I tried to keep track of all donations but
got them mixed up with some of the other money. I know for sure that there are at least one or two more Daisy Donations I
missed. This is who I have marked down for $20.00 TROOP donations: (Let me know if I'm wrong in any way) Jamie C, Cheryle,
Kate, Brenda, Thersa S and Steph.
DAISY TREAT BUCKET
Please see the Daisy Treat Bucket list. Each girl
is asked to bring either a snack or a drink to each meeting. Remember if you do not send treats or drinks when it is your
daughters turn the troop will not have a snakc on that day. The first part of the year we spent money from the Junior/Cadette
Checking account or the Leaders supplied them when ever someone was absent or forgot, but this half of the year we won't be
able to do that with husbands being laid off and ALL the money in the Junior/Cadette account was spent on our Christmas Families.
So it's up to you...THANKS for remembering!
DAISY'S NEED TO MEET THE PEOPLE
IN OUR COMMUNITY
The Daisy Troop still needs to meet a firefighter and a police officeror how
about a local Pastor? Any other ideas? Anyone with "Connections" to these people PLEASE go ahead a talk to them about meeting
the girls. All they have to do is drop in and say "HI!" It can be at the meeting on May 10th, your trip to Keithsburg on May
17th or even at the Daisy picnic on May 24th! **Brownies, Juniors or Cadettes could even plan someting for the Daisys as a
Girl Scout Service!** Any help would be greatly appreciated, I just do not have enough spare time. THANKS in advance!!
DAISY LAW PETAL WORK SHEET
Each Daisy will be given a Law Petal worksheet. Parents will have to help
them match up parts of the Girl Scout Law to the people we've met in the community and the jobs we've explored. I'll try to
get these completed ASAP so I can determine which Law Petals to Award at the Ceremony.
Here is a list of the "Monthly Theme". IF you can fit it into a field trip
GREAT, If not plan what ever you think the girls will have the most fun doing! Keep in mind ......"MEETING PEOPLE IN OUR COMUNITY"
is part of the purpose of these field trips:
JANUARY - Spring Green ~ Considerate & Caring -
FEBRUARY - RED ~ Courageous & Strong -
MARCH - Orange ~ Responsible for what I say and do -
APRIL - Purple ~ Respect myself and others -
MAY - MAGENTA ~ Respect Authority -
JUNE & JULY- Green ~ Use resources wisely -
AUGUST - Rose ~ Make the world a better place -
SEPTEMBER - Violet ~ Be A Sister to every Girl Scout -
IT'S TIME FOR
EVERYONE TO SPRING REGISTER!
All Girls and Adults who plan to participate in the 2004 - 2005 Girl Scout Activities/Troop Year are asked to register
at this time. Registration forms can be picked up any time between now and "The Cookie Connection Celebration" on Sunday
May 23rd. ALL forms must be completed and returned with a $10.00 registration fee NO LATER THAN MAY 27th! ( I would prefer to collect them all at the Cookie ceremony if at all possible, to save me loads of last
minute paper work!) Financial Assisatnce is available if needed.
EVERYONE who SPRING REGISTERS will be invited to Special Summer and Fall Events. If you do NOT Spring Register than you
can NOT participate in these activities.
CO-LEADERS DESPERATELY NEEDED!
With all that is going on here, I desperately need more adult help. In the fall we will be adding another Troop for our
Bridging Brownies, IF they choose NOT to bridge to Darby's Troop. So I will have a total of four troops with five age levels
again.
The first SEVEN Adults to register as a CO-LEADER and attend training will receive a FREE T-Shirt! Let me know if you are
interested in becoming a Co-Leader!

DAISY GIRL SCOUTS ~ LEARNING PROMISE & LAW
EARNING DAISY PATCHES
First of all with matters concerning what the girls have worked on/earned as far as the official patches. I think almost
everyone has earned their Daisy Promise Center. (Which is to be sewn in the middle of their Tunics). We still have maybe 2
to 5 girls who have not received them yet. Let me know IF your daughter DID NOT get a Promise Center and has now memorized
her promise.
Second, We are now into APRIL and the girls should have almost earned SIX Law petals. I have not awarded those yet,
because I am not totally satisfied that the girls fully understand and/or can recite those SIX Laws.
In November we worked on the light blue petal petal - HONEST AND FAIR.
December we worked on the yellow petal - FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL and
January's law is the spring green petal - CONSIDERATE AND CARING
February's Law is the red petal - COURAGEOUS AND STRONG
March's Law is the
orange petal - RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT I SAY AND DO
April's Law is the purple
petal - RESPECT MYSELF AND OTHERS
This is where you can help them. Go over the first SIX parts of the Law. Ask them what each part means and have them
recite it to you. As soon as each girl can say that part of the law and tell me in her words what it means to her, she has
earned each of those law petals.
(Part of the LAW which should be memorized by end of APRIL)
The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be;
- honset and Fair,
- friendly nad Helpful,
- considerate and Caring,
- courageous and strong, and
- responsible for what I say and do,
and to
- respect myself and others,

A SPECIAL DAISY HONOR
A BIG Accomplishment for one of the Littlest Westmer Girl Scouts!
(From our OCTOBER 2001 News Letter)
Girl Scouts have came a long way in the USA since the first Troops were formed
By Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low in her home town of Savannah, Georgia on March 12, 1912. Daisy would be proud of the organization
that she devoted her life to build, For Every Girl Every Where.
Everyone is familiar with "Girl Scouts" and who can resist buying Girl Scout Cookies
from those cute little Brownies? But did you know there is a group even younger than Brownies? In 1995 Girl Scouts of the
USA added a new branch to our family tree and named them DAISY GIRL SCOUTS in honor of our founder. This group gives Kindergarteners
(and starting in January 2003 4 year old registered Pre-Schoolers!) the chance to expirience the wonderful world of Girl Scouting
too. These littlest Girl Scouts have fun exploring as they meet people in thier community and get to know the world around
them.
However, never before 2000, could Girl Scouts in the Daisy Troop earn "Official
Patches" like all the other age levels. But as of October 1, 2000; something new and exciting was added to the Daisy Program.
It's called "The Promise Center" and "Ten Law Petals". In order to earn these new Official Patches a Daisy must first learn
to recite her Girl Scout Promise; " On My Honor, I
will try to serve God and my country, to help people at all times and to live by the Girl Scout Law. " As soon as she has accomplished
this, the littlest Girl Scout is awarded her Promise Center which is placed in the middle of her Daisy Tunic (The Daisy Uniform).
Then comes the hard part, she studies and learns the ten parts of the Girl Scout Law and as she learns each part she recieves
a different color Law Petal which goes around the promise center until it forms a BIG Daisy on the front of her Tunic.
The 2000 - 2001 Daisy Troop from Westmer Elementary were the first Daisy's to
work on these patches during the 2001 Troop year. They made Law Posters each month as they discovered what it meant to live
by the Girl Scout Law. Four girls started out on this mission and only one accomplished a task as big as her name. She not
only learned the meaning of the Girl Scout Law she memorized it! Now, Little Savanah F. can do something that most older Girl
Scouts can not even do... she can recite the Girl Scout Promise and all TEN parts of the Girl Scout Law from memory. Savanah,
who is the daughter of Dan & Tina F. of Joy, is very shy and will probably have to whisper them in your ear as she did
for her Girl Scout Leader on Awards Day, but she CANdo it! So
far, Savanah is the FIRST and only Westmer Daisy Girl Scout to ever accomplish the task of earning all eleven of the Official
Daisy Girl Scout Patches, but we hope she is just a pioneer and that many more future Daisy Girl Scouts will follow in her
foot steps as they learn and Grow Strong in Girl Scouting.
WAY TO GO SAVANAH!
